Vudzhin Kim, a manager working on the quality of ads AdSense, and  his group is responsible for the relevance of ads displayed on your site to a user’s interests. To do this they use, including, contextual targeting, in which ads are matched to the content of web pages. Based on contextual targeting, their system analyzes the content of a page, suitable for conducting the auction ad, and then displays the most relevant – and all this in the twinkling of an eye! Sounds easy, right?

In fact, the selection of ads relevant to the content of the pages is a task almost scientific scope and includes a semantic analysis and machine learning. It is this and is our team. Machines successfully cope with the selection of matches, but it is there are cases where their understanding of relevance does not coincide with ours. In those (relatively rare) cases, the system eventually may show ads that are not entirely relevant to a user’s interests. They understand that the higher the relevancy of the ads, the better for users and for publishers and advertisers, therefore, constantly looking for new ways of how they can improve the relevancy and quality of ads published on your site.

I m pleased to announce that this week in the context of targeting AdSense will make a number of improvements that will more accurately match ads that are relevant to the content of web pages. You do not need to update your account settings or the AdSense ad code: all changes will be applied automatically. In many ways, this kind of improvements to Google in the manner of things, but I just wanted to talk about one interesting projects we are working. However, these changes do not affect the targeting of other types of ads on your site. For example, ads targeted to the location of the remains will be present on your pages if an advertiser wishes to place them on your site.

This concludes our work on the system by no means finished, but we believe that through these changes, users will see more relevant ads, advertisers will be able to attract the desired audience, and thus recoup their costs, and publishers over time, will earn more.

And as always, we’ll be happy to receive your feedback about these changes!
